50,000 more Rohingyas intrude afresh

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said additional 50,000 Rohingyas intruded into Bangladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhaine to save life after recent deadly clashes between the country’s government forces and separatist armed group Arakan Army.
He provided this information in reply to a question from the journalists after the inauguration of Ukhiya Battalion (BGB-64) in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, March 1.
After crossing the border, the Rohingyas took refuge in different areas, including Rohingya camps, in the district, he said.
Mentioning that the Arakan Army occupied the Myanmar territory along Bangladesh border and it is difficult to say which will control it in the future, the home adviser said that is why, the Bangladesh Border Guard, BGB, maintains communication with both groups.
About the influx of Rohingyas, he said the BGB obstructs Rohingyas from entering Bangladesh and sometimes, their entrance is considered on humanitarian grounds.
