The body of a police constable was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the Joynagar Immigration Checkpost in Darshana, Chuadanga, on Friday morning.

The deceased, Shamim Reza Saju, 31, was the son of Hossain Ali of Jhutiyadanga village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. He had joined the Darshana Immigration Department six months ago and was living alone in a room on the second floor of the newly constructed building.

Chuadanga Superintendent of Police, Khondokar Golam Mowla, visited the scene around 10:00 am.

According to police and his colleagues, Shamim was found missing from duty around 8:30 am. When they went to check on him, they found his room locked from the inside. Peering through a window, they saw him hanging from the ceiling fan. Darshana police later arrived and recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Darshana Police Station, Mohammad Shahid Titumir stated that initial evidence suggests the constable may have taken his own life due to mental distress. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime during Thursday night.
