NID services temporarily suspended nationwide
National Identity Card (NID) services have been temporarily suspended across the country due to a technical issue involving One-Time Passwords (OTP) required to access the NID server. As a result, thousands of people are facing severe inconvenience. Service seekers from various parts of the country have gathered at Election Commission (EC) offices, waiting for assistance.
Director General of the National Identity Registration Division, ASM Humayun Kabir, confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday (May 13).
Humayun Kabir said, “To log in to our server, officials need to enter a user ID and password, followed by an OTP. Since the OTPs are not being received, officials are unable to access the server. As a result, online services are temporarily halted. However, activities like photo capturing and biometric data collection are still ongoing. All services will resume once the OTP issue is resolved.”
He further clarified, “Our server is not down. The OTP service we use to operate the NID system was purchased from a third-party provider, and the issue lies with their system. They are currently working to resolve it, and once fixed, services will resume.”
Speaking to several field-level EC officials, it was learned that they have been unable to provide services since morning due to the OTP problem. They were informed that the issue is expected to be resolved by noon.
