More than 800 passengers were stranded after the Dhaka-bound Cox’s Bazar Express suffered an engine failure at Islamabad station in Eidgaon of Cox’s Bazar, around 1:00pm on Sunday, June 15.

According to Mohammad Golam Rabbani, manager of Cox’s Bazar Railway Station, the train departed at 12:45 pm, 15 minutes behind schedule, carrying over 800 passengers.

A burned-out motor in the engine caused the breakdown at Islamabad station.

Rabbani noted that Cox’s Bazar station lacks a relief train or loco shed facility.

“We have informed the authorities in Chattogram, and a relief train with a replacement engine is on its way to Islamabad station,” he said.

ABM Kamruzzaman, divisional manager of Chattogram Railway, confirmed that the train will resume its journey to Dhaka once the damaged engine is replaced.
