Dhaka is looking forward to a tariff agreement with Washington DC, which Bangladesh hopes will be mutually beneficial.

Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, shared the update in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning.

“Dhaka is looking forward to a tariff deal with Washington DC, which we hope will be win-win for both countries,” he wrote.

He said Bangladesh’s Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin is currently in Washington DC, leading the country's trade talks with the United States. National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman is also part of the delegation.

“Bangladesh has received a letter from President Donald Trump yesterday, declaring that the US would impose a 35 percent tariff on Bangladeshi goods starting August 1,” he said.

He added that the Bangladesh team has already held several rounds of discussion with their American counterparts, and another round is scheduled for July 9, which Sheikh Bashiruddin will lead.
