The ongoing curfew in Gopalganj, initially imposed from 8:00pm on Wednesday, July 16, to 6:00pm on Thursday, July 17, has been extended for an indefinite period, with a three-hour pause on Friday.

The announcement was made by Suchismita Tithi, Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, citing a Home Ministry statement on Thursday, July 17, evening.

The curfew will be lifted temporarily from 11:00am to 2:00pm PM on Friday to allow essential activities, but it will resume from 2:00pm until further notice.

The extension follows violent clashes in Gopalganj, sparked by attacks on a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally and convoy, allegedly by supporters of the banned Awami League, Chhatra League, and Juba League.

The violence, which claimed at least four lives and injured many, prompted the initial 22-hour curfew to restore order in the district.
