Five people were killed and two others seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a microbus in Baraigram upazila of Natore on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 10:00 am near the Royna Tormuj filling station under Baraigram Union. Authorities fear the death toll may rise.

The deceased include four women and one man. The two injured were initially taken to Natore Sadar Hospital and later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the Dhaka-bound microbus from Natore collided head-on with a goods-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. The front part of the microbus was severely mangled in the impact. Locals managed to recover two bodies immediately, while others remained trapped.

Later, firefighters and Bonpara Highway police arrived at the scene and cut through the microbus to recover three more bodies. They also rescued the two injured.

Dr Samrat, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Natore Sadar Hospital, said the injured received primary treatment before being referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
