JCD nominates murder accused for JUCSU polls
Hamidullah Salman

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has nominated a murder case accused in its panel for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUSCSU) elections.

The full panel, announced on Thursday by the JU unit of JCD, includes Hamidullah Salman, a student of the English Department, who is facing a murder case. Salman is a member of JCD’s extended convening committee at JU and serves as the president of Rabindranath Tagore Hall.

He is accused in the murder of Shamim Molla, a former leader of the banned organization Chhatra League, who was lynched on the JU campus on September 18 last year.

Regarding the allegations, Hamidullah Salman said, “I am in no way involved in the murder. The university administration, under mob pressure, hastily filed a false case against me without any proper investigation. I was even suspended for six months. Now I am a regular student. The case is still under investigation, and if properly examined, I will be proven innocent.”

Commenting on nominating a murder case accused, Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, convenor of the JU unit of JCD, said, “Priority has been given to those who fought in the July uprising. Salman fought on our behalf during the July mass uprising. His suspension period has ended, and the allegations against him have not been proven.”

Notably, the university authorities filed a murder case against eight individuals and temporarily suspended them following Shamim Molla’s death. In a syndicate meeting held on March 17 this year, Hamidullah Salman and others were suspended for six months over allegations of involvement in the murder.
