Touhid attends high-stakes Arab-Islamic Summit prep in Doha
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has arrived in Doha to spearhead Bangladesh’s diplomatic engagement at the preparatory meeting for the upcoming emergency Arab-Islamic summit, a critical gathering convened in response to Israel’s recent military strike on Qatari territory.
The high-level preparatory session, held on Sunday and chaired by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, set the stage for a two-day emergency summit aimed at forging a unified regional response.
Also addressing the meeting were Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Hussein Ibrahim Taha and Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit.
In a press release issued Sunday evening, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Adviser Touhid is leading the country’s delegation at the summit underscoring Bangladesh’s prominent role in mobilising the Muslim world amid escalating tensions.
He is accompanied by a senior diplomatic team including Additional Foreign Secretary M Farhadul Islam, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the OIC M JH Javed, and Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan.
The emergency summit, scheduled to commence Monday, will focus intensely on Israel’s attack on Qatar, an unprecedented escalation that has rattled regional security frameworks and triggered urgent calls for collective action.
Delegates are expected to draft a joint communiqué, consider diplomatic and economic measures, and reaffirm solidarity with Qatar.
Bangladesh’s leadership at this juncture reflects its longstanding advocacy for Palestinian rights and its growing diplomatic weight within multilateral Islamic forums including its active presence in key OIC hubs such as Cairo, Jeddah, and now Doha.
