Yunus departs for New York to address 80th UNGA
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus departed Dhaka early Monday for New York to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He boarded an Emirates flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:40am, leading a high-level government delegation that includes five prominent political figures: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Foreign Affairs Adviser to the BNP Acting Chairman, Humayun Kabir; Nayeb Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Sayeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher; Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Akhtar Hossain; and NCP’s First Senior Joint Member Secretary, Dr Tasneem Zara.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Naqibur Rahman is expected to join the delegation upon their arrival in the United States.
Professor Yunus is scheduled to deliver Bangladesh’s national statement at the UNGA General Debate on September 26. He is expected to return to Dhaka on October 2.
