The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sent arrest warrants for 28 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in two enforced disappearance cases to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The warrants have also been forwarded to 12 relevant departments.
The Registrar’s Office of the ICT confirmed the information on Thursday morning (October 9).
Speaking on the matter, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam said that on Wednesday afternoon, the tribunal sent the arrest warrants of 28 accused in the two cases to the IGP and 12 designated offices.
The twelve offices include: the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of General Staff, Adjutant General (Army Headquarters), Director General of DGFI, Director General of NSI, Principal Staff Officer (Armed Forces Division), Secretary of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Director of Military Intelligence, Director of Personnel Service Directorate (Bangladesh Army), Commandant of Army Security Unit, Provost Marshal, and CEO of Army MP Unit for Information.
Earlier, on Wednesday (October 8), the ICT-1 issued the arrest warrants in two separate cases. One case accuses Hasina, Tarique Siddique, and 17 others of abduction and torture in the TFI cell, while the other involves Hasina, Tarique, and 13 others in similar offences committed in the Joint Interrogation Cell.
The cases name five former DGs of DGFI and senior Army officers as accused, many of whom are still serving in their positions. However, the Chief Prosecutor stated that under the amended law of the International Crimes Tribunal, they will not be allowed to hold any official post after formal charges are filed.
