July Charter signing ceremony deferred to Oct 17 for wider participation

The signing ceremony of the July National Charter has been rescheduled to October 17, two days later than originally planned, to ensure broader public participation by aligning the event with the weekend.

The decision came at a meeting of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) held on Saturday at the State Guest House Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr Ali Riaz said the event marks a “historic milestone” in the nation’s democratic transition. Holding it on a Friday afternoon, he noted, would allow more citizens to join and witness the signing.

Representatives from various political parties, alliances, and social groups across the country are expected to take part, alongside individuals from diverse professional sectors.

NCC member Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider also attended the meeting.
