Nine OSD secretaries sent into compulsory retirement

The government has sent nine senior secretaries and secretaries, who were serving as Officers on Special Duty (OSD), into compulsory retirement. The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate notifications in this regard on Monday night (October 20).

All of the retired officials had served as senior secretaries or secretaries during the tenure of the Awami League government, which was ousted through a mass uprising. After the interim government assumed power, they were made OSDs.

Among the nine officials, two were senior secretaries—Md Monzur Hossain and Md Moshiur Rahman. The seven secretaries are Md Shamsul Arefin, Md Mizanur Rahman, Md Azizur Rahman, Md Nurul Alam, Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed, Dr AKM Matiur Rahman, and Shafiul Azim. The notifications stated that they have been sent into retirement in the public interest.

According to the notifications, the decision was made under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, which empowers the government to send an official into compulsory retirement after 25 years of service without issuing a show-cause notice. However, such action requires the President’s approval.

The notifications also mentioned that the retired officials will receive all retirement benefits.
