A man was killed in a clash between two groups over the hanging of a banner featuring Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor and BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain.

The deceased, Sajjad, 22, son of Alam, was a resident of Taktarpul under Baklia police station. His family hails from Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla district. Sajjad was known in the area as a supporter of the mayor.

The incident occurred late Monday night in front of the Madina Abashik area on Syed Shah Road. According to local residents, gunfire erupted and a widespread clash took place during the confrontation.

Baklia Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Ikhtiar Uddin, said, “One person was killed in the clash between two groups over a banner on Syed Shah Road. The situation is currently under control.”

According to local sources, the clash took place between supporters of Emdadul Haque Badsha, a suspended leader of Chattogram city Juba Dal, and Borhan Uddin. On the occasion of Juba Dal’s founding anniversary, Borhan’s supporters had hung a banner with the mayor’s picture on Syed Shah Road. When Badsha’s supporters tried to remove it at night, Borhan intervened with his supporters, leading to a confrontation. During the clash, Sajjad and 8–10 others were shot.
