Three service chiefs meet Yunus, discuss polls security preparations
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday directed the chiefs of the three armed services to ensure flawless security arrangements for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, scheduled for the first half of February 2026.
The directive came during a high-level meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna at 7:00pm, attended by Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, and Air Chief Marshal Hassan Mahmud Khan.
National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman was also present.
During the meeting, the Chief Adviser commended the armed forces for their continued efforts in maintaining national security and internal stability over the past 15 months.
“The interim government is committed to making the upcoming election free, fair, impartial, peaceful, and festive,” Professor Yunus said, instructing the chiefs to maintain the highest level of vigilance and coordination during the electoral period.
The three service chiefs briefed the Chief Adviser on their respective preparations for the election, outlining plans for a countrywide deployment of troops. Around 90,000 army personnel, 2,500 navy personnel, and a contingent from the air force will be mobilized to support law enforcement and ensure order during the polls.
Each upazila will have one company of army personnel deployed as part of the security framework.
