Driver injured as arsonists set bus on fire in Ashulia
A driver was injured after unidentified arsonists set an Alif Transport bus, parked by the roadside at Ashulia in Savar, Dhaka, on fire on Wednesday.
According to the fire service and local sources, around 4:45 am, two individuals on a motorcycle set the bus ablaze and fled the scene. Locals alerted the fire service, whose unit arrived shortly afterward and brought the fire under control. By then, the interior of the bus had been completely destroyed.
The bus driver, Sattar, said, “I was sleeping inside the bus when I suddenly saw it on fire. I jumped out through the window. After getting out, I saw four people with two motorcycles standing nearby. They were wearing helmets. When I shouted at them, they fired blank shots, creating panic, and then fled. I injured my knee while escaping.”
Pranab Chowdhury, Senior Station Officer of the DEPZ Fire Service, said, “Upon receiving the report, our unit reached the scene and brought the fire under control within ten minutes. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.”
Repeated attempts to reach Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hannan on his mobile phone were unsuccessful.
