Protesters set fire to house gate of Nizam Hazari in Feni
Protesters set fire to the gate of the house of Nizam Uddin Hazari, former Feni-2 MP and general secretary of Feni District unit of the Awami League, on Monday night. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm at his residence in Baganbari, Masterpara, Feni.
Omar Faruk, former coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement in Feni, said the attack on Hazari’s house was in retaliation for the arson at the July Memorial. “Every attack on July will be met with fire at their houses. Their existence will be wiped out. Sheikh Hasina’s verdict has been given, and the same must happen for Nizam Hazari and Shusen,” he stated.
Shortly after the incident, police from Feni Model Police Station and fire service personnel arrived at the scene. Earlier, protesters had vandalized boards displaying the names and photos of Awami League leaders in front of Feni Government College and painted over them.
Former coordinator Muhaimin Tajim said that despite repeated arson incidents, particularly at the July Memorial, the administration has so far not taken any legal action against Awami League leaders. “It is this inaction that has allowed such incidents to recur. To prevent this, we, the students and the public, remain active in the field,” he added.
Feni Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Samsuzzaman, said the police arrived immediately after receiving news of the fire. Fire service personnel extinguished the flames at the house gate, and the situation is now under control.
