DU students hand over Deputy Registrar Lavelu to police
A group of Dhaka University (DU) students caught Deputy Registrar Lovelu Mollah Sisir from the university’s Russell Tower on Monday night and handed him over to the police following a Facebook post.
Lovelu had shared a photo card on his Facebook account featuring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s image with the caption: “I don’t care,” after the International Crimes Tribunal announced her death sentence.
Fatima Tasnim Zuma, Secretary for Liberation War and Democratic Movements Affairs, wrote on Facebook: “We handed Lovelu over to the police. We will maintain the same stand regarding genocidal teachers.”
AB Zubayer, Secretary of Social Services at DU, also wrote on Facebook: “The DU Deputy Registrar who posted in favour of Hasina has been caught. Every single rat will be dragged out of its hole. Wait.”
Shahbagh police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur confirmed that several DU students had handed the deputy registrar to the police and that legal action was being taken against him.
DU Proctor, Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, said that administrative measures had already been taken, and Lovelu had been placed on administrative leave (OSD). “We will review the matter again and make further decisions,” he added.
During his student life, Lovelu served as the president of the Masterda Surya Sen Hall unit of Chhatra League.
