Verdict in graft case against Hasina, Rehana, Tulip on Dec 1
The verdict in a corruption case filed over alleged irregularities in plot allocations by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) against 17 people—including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and niece British MP Tulip Siddiq—will be delivered on 1 December.
After the completion of arguments, Judge Rabiul Alam of Dhaka’s Fourth Special Judge Court set the date for pronouncing the verdict.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Moinul Hasan confirmed the development to Jago News.
According to ACC lawyers, Sheikh Rehana is the prime accused in the case. Charges were brought against 17 individuals, and arguments were presented today. The case was filed by ACC Deputy Director Md Salah Uddin.
Court sources said that after the investigation, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya submitted a chargesheet against the 17 accused on 10 March. On 31 July, Judge Rabiul Alam of the Fourth Special Judge Court in Dhaka framed charges in three related cases and ordered the trial to begin.
The other accused include Md Saiful Islam Sarker, administrative officer at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works; Purabi Goldar, senior assistant secretary; Oliullah, additional secretary; Kazi Wasi Uddin, secretary; Md Anisur Rahman Miah, former PA to the RAJUK chairman; former RAJUK member Mohammad Khurshid Alam; Tanmay Das; Mohammad Nasir Uddin; Major (Engr.) Shamsuddin Ahmad Chowdhury (Retd.); former director Md Nurul Islam; assistant director Mazharul Islam; deputy director Nayeb Ali Sharif; and two others later added to the investigation—former prime minister’s Principal Secretary-1 Mohammad Salah Uddin and former state minister for housing and public works Sharif Ahmed.
