DNCC to set area-based rent structure in Dhaka
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will soon introduce an area-wise rent structure to ensure fair housing costs for tenants, Administrator Mohammad Azaz announced on Thursday, November 27.
He shared the plan at a roundtable held at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban, attended by house owners, tenants and stakeholders.
The discussion followed a special report published in Jago News on Wednesday titled “Rent increases in Dhaka every year.”
“We will provide a policy guideline specifying minimum and maximum rent ranges by area,” Azaz said while speaking as chief guest.
“The list will be prepared based on factors including land value and local market reality. We hope to finalize this by December and begin implementation from the new year with everyone’s cooperation,” he said.
Azaz noted that although there is an existing House Rent Act, lack of awareness allows confusion and disputes. “We will run campaigns to raise awareness and make the law understandable for all,” he added.
DNCC also plans to upload a model rental agreement on its website for house owners and tenants to use.
The administrator further proposed creating ward-level house owner-tenant associations to resolve disputes first at the local level. If unresolved, cases may then be taken to DNCC regional offices.
