Nestlé Bangladesh has taken a pioneering step in advancing public health by hosting “The Gut Nexus”, the country’s first Gut Health Summit, bringing together over 250 scientists, nutritionists, clinicians, and research professionals for a two-day scientific workshop on the gut microbiome.

Held under the banner of the Nestlé Nutrition Institute, the event underscored the company’s commitment to bridging cutting-edge science with practical nutrition solutions.

Themed “Bridging Science and Nutrition for a Healthier Future,” the summit combined expert-led sessions with hands-on learning experiences to foster deeper understanding of gut health and its far-reaching impact on overall well-being.

The workshop featured keynote addresses by two internationally renowned specialists: Prof Dr Shaman Rajendrajith from Sri Lanka, an expert in functional gastrointestinal disorders, and Prof Dr Mark A Beninga from the Netherlands, a leading paediatric gastroenterologist. Their presentations highlighted the critical role of the gut microbiome in health and disease across all age groups.

Local perspectives were equally prominent, with Prof Dr Md. Iqbal Hossain of icddr,b delivering an insightful talk on the relevance of gut-friendly foods within the Bangladeshi diet and public health context. His contribution resonated strongly with attendees, emphasising the need for culturally tailored nutritional strategies.

Attendees also engaged with interactive scientific booths showcasing the latest innovations in probiotics and synbiotics – reflecting Nestlé’s ongoing investment in research-driven nutrition solutions.

The summit received widespread acclaim from participants, who praised its scientific rigour and collaborative spirit. Organisers noted that the event reinforces Nestlé Nutrition Institute’s leadership in promoting evidence-based nutrition education in Bangladesh and its long-term vision to improve health outcomes for future generations.
