New details have emerged in the Mohammadpur double murder that left Laila Afroz, 48, and her daughter Nafisa Lawal Binte Aziz, 15, dead inside their apartment, revealing that a theft accusation triggered the brutal attack.

Police say Ayesha, the newly hired housemaid, confessed to killing the mother and daughter after being blamed for missing items in the household. She had joined the family only four days earlier.

Ayesha fled the flat wearing Nafisa’s school uniform and escaped to Jhalakathi, where she took shelter at her in-laws’ home.

Acting on intelligence, Mohammadpur police arrested her on Wednesday, December 10, along with her husband Rabbi, who allegedly helped hide her.

During primary interrogation, Ayesha admitted she was enraged by the theft allegation, though investigators are still probing whether she acted alone or had any other motivation.

Investigators described deep wounds on Nafisa’s neck and multiple stab injuries on Laila’s body, inflicted with a sharp weapon.

CCTV footage shows Ayesha entering the building in a burqa and later leaving in the school uniform, carrying a bag and wearing a mask.

Surveillance analysis indicates that Nafisa’s father, Azizul Islam, left home for school duties around 7:00am.

Ayesha entered the lift at 7:51am and exited the building at 9:35am, disguised in Nafisa’s uniform.

Azizul discovered the bodies after returning home at 11:30am.

He said the maid was hired through the building’s caretaker and security staff.

A day before the murders, the key to the main door of the apartment went missing, but the family chose not to confront her despite suspicion.

Azizul told police Ayesha refused to share her address or phone number, claiming her parents had died in a fire and she had been burned as well.

Azizul, originally from Natore Sadar, has been living in the Mohammadpur apartment with his family since 2012.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether any additional individuals were involved and to uncover the full circumstances behind the killings.
