72 Bangladeshis detained in Malaysia
The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has detained 402 undocumented foreign nationals, including 72 Bangladeshis, in two states of the country.
Of them, 356 were detained in Johor state and 46 in Negeri Sembilan.
Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the enforcement wing of JIM, Johor, in association with the Malaysian Border Security Agency (AKPS), conducted a drive at a computer parts factory in Tebrau Industrial Area around 7:00 pm on Wednesday (local time) and detained 356 illegal migrants.
Among the detainees, 299 are from Myanmar, 26 from Bangladesh, 22 from India, three from Indonesia, two from Nepal, and one from Pakistan and the Philippines each.
The JIM detained 46 illegal Bangladeshi workers in separate raids at an iron factory in Negeri Sembilan at about 9:00 am on Thursday (local time), said the state’s Immigration director, Kennith Tan Ai Kiang.
Various offences, including not having valid passes and overstaying, have been proven against them, officials said.
