Travel ban imposed on prime accused in Hadi murder case

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

The order was passed on Sunday (21 December) by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid, following an application filed by the investigating officer of the case.

In the application, the investigating officer stated that as the case involves a sensational murder, there is a risk that the investigation could be severely hampered if the accused leaves the country. To ensure a fair and impartial investigation, restricting the prime accused from travelling abroad is necessary.

Taking the application into consideration, the court held a hearing and subsequently ordered a travel ban on Faisal Karim.

According to case records, on the afternoon of 12 December, miscreants shot Sharif Osman Hadi in the head on Box Culvert Road in Old Paltan, Dhaka. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced medical care. He died there while undergoing treatment last Thursday.

Hadi’s body was brought back to the country on Friday (19 December). He was laid to rest at around 3:30 pm on Saturday beside the mausoleum of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near the Central Jam-e Mosque of Dhaka University.
