Govt plans 37,000 BGB members deployment during polls
The government plans to deploy more than 37,000 members of the Border Guard Bangladesh across the country during the upcoming national elections, keeping the country's border unaffected.
The BGB will perform election duty singly in the bordering 61 upazilas, and will be deployed in polling centres in 300 constituencies as mobile and striking force, considering the risk, said BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
He provided this information at a programme at Shahparir Dwip in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf on Monday night, January 26.
BGB personnel have been given the necessary training, a special briefing, and directions to carry out duties during the elections, the DG said.
Arrangements have been made to use BGB helicopters, quick-response forces, rapid-action teams, specialised K-9 dog squad, drones, and body-worn cameras to deal with emergencies, he added.
