PM inaugurates honorarium programme for imams, muezzins

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday inaugurated a nationwide honorarium programme for imams, muezzins, khadems, and other religious leaders.

The ceremony was held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka at 10:00 am.

Under the initiative, imams will receive a monthly honorarium of Tk 5,000, muezzins Tk 3,000 and khadems Tk 2,000. Additionally, Tk 8,000 will be allocated to temples, Buddhist temples, and churches, respectively.

As part of the pilot phase ahead of Eid, the programme will cover 4,908 mosques across unions and municipalities, 990 temples (two from each upazila), 144 Buddhist viharas (two from each of 72 upazilas), and 396 churches (two from each of 198 upazilas).
