Four members of a family were shot by a group of assailants inside their residence in Khulna on Thursday.

The incident took place in the morning in Khadijabag Krishnanagar Thikrabadh area under Labanchara Police Station.

The injured were identified as Kazi Anisur Rahman, his wife Ranjura Begum, their son Raisul Islam, and their younger son Rashidul’s wife, Fahima.

According to police and local sources, the incident is believed to have originated from a personal conflict involving Rashidul. Rashidul had been imprisoned three years ago in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

During his time in prison, he became acquainted with an individual named Imran. Following their release, Rashidul maintained contact with Imran and frequently visited his home.

Over time, Rashidul developed a relationship with Imran’s wife, Fahima. Six months ago, when Imran was again incarcerated in another case, Rashidul married her.

Police believe this development led to heightened tension and anger on Imran’s part, ultimately resulting in the attack.

A group of six assailants entered the house of Rashidul on Thursday morning and opened fire on them, leaving him, his parents and wife critically injured on the spot.

Hearing the sounds of gunfire, locals rescued the injured and took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Confirming the matter, Labanchara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Tuhinuzzaman said that the shooting was likely motivated by a relationship-related dispute.

He added that bullets could not be immediately removed from Ranjura Begum’s chest and Fahima’s leg, prompting their transfer to Dhaka.

Police are trying to arrest the accused involved in the incident, the OC said, adding that legal action will be taken against them.
