A former official of the Palli Bidyut Samiti, his son, and granddaughter were killed when their private car collided with a tree while returning from a relative’s home in Chuadanga early Tuesday (March 23). Three others in the car were seriously injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The accident occurred around 2:30 am near Gaidghat on the Jashore-Magura Road.

The deceased were Abdul Majid Sardar, 75, former director of Monirampur Palli Bidyut Samiti-2; his son, Mahmud Hasan Zakaria Jony, 43, an internet businessman from Monirampur Bazar; and his granddaughter, four-year-old Sheherish.

The injured are Jony’s mother, Monwara Begum, 60; his wife, Sabrina Jahan, 30; and his son, Samin Almas, 10.

Alamgir Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Barobazar Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident. According to police, the car was heading towards Jashore when, around 2:30 am, it lost control near Gaidghat and collided with a banyan tree on the opposite side of the road. Jony and his father died at the scene. The four injured were taken to Jessore General Hospital, where the child later succumbed to her injuries. The remaining three were admitted for treatment.

Riad Hossain, an IT expert at Jony’s firm, said Jony had taken his entire family to visit relatives in Chuadanga, and the accident occurred while they were returning home.
