The government will take all decisions in line with the spirit and aspirations of the July mass uprising, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Tuesday, confirming that the government will endorse the ordinance granting indemnity to July warriors.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists before attending the first meeting of a special committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, held at the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday.

Salahuddin, also a BNP Standing Committee member, said a total of 133 ordinances were promulgated during the tenure of the interim government, all of which will be reviewed in detail at the meeting.

“Under parliamentary rules, these matters must be settled within 30 working days. We will take decisions in each case, giving the highest priority to the aspirations of the July mass uprising,” he said.

The minister also addressed the issue of politically motivated naming of institutions during the previous Awami League government’s tenure. He said renaming such institutions is a key item on the meeting’s agenda.

“Effective decisions will be taken to change all controversial names in response to public demand,” he added.

Meanwhile, the special committee meeting has begun at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with senior leaders from both the government and opposition in attendance.
