Man killed in clash over boundary wall in Chuadanga
A man was killed and two others were injured in a clash between two families over the construction of a boundary wall on ancestral land in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga early Wednesday.
The deceased, Shahidul Islam Dhali, 53, a cook by profession, was a resident of the Majherpara area of Muktarpur village in the upazila.
According to police and local sources, a long-standing dispute had been ongoing among cousins over jointly owned ancestral property.
The clash broke out around 2:00pm on Tuesday when Shahidul’s younger brother, Shahin Islam Dhali, began constructing a boundary wall on the disputed land. Members of the rival group prohibited them from constructing the wall and demolished a portion of the wall, triggering an altercation.
As tensions escalated, both sides engaged in a violent clash. Shahidul was reportedly struck on the head with a bamboo stick during the attack, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital around 1:00am.
Family members said that two women, Shilpi Khatun and Arabi Khatun, were also injured in the incident and were receiving treatment at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
Local union parishad member Hasan Ali said the clash originated from a dispute over shared ancestral land.
Confirming the matter, Damurhuda police station officer-in-charge Sheikh Mesbah Uddin said that two people had been detained in connection with the incident and legal action was under way.
