Opposition Leader hails Deputy Speaker's pledge of impartiality
Opposition Leader Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman has commended Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal for committing to neutrality in presiding over National Parliament proceedings.
"The sentiment you have expressed today through your speech is exactly what the people of Bangladesh desire. They want Parliament to become the centre of all democratic activity in the country," Dr Rahman said during the resumed session on Sunday, March 29.
The Deputy Speaker, presiding over the House for the first time following a 14-day adjournment, used his introductory address to affirm his impartial stance. He disclosed that he had resigned from his Bangladesh Nationalist Party position to uphold the neutrality required by his new constitutional role.
Dr Rahman, who also serves as Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, formally congratulated the Deputy Speaker on his approach. "We congratulated you when you were elected. Today, we congratulate you again from this floor," he said.
"This chair represents justice. The message you have given is that you will consider every matter impartially and ensure everyone receives what is due to them. For that commitment, I congratulate you once more."
The Opposition Leader assured the Deputy Speaker of full cooperation from opposition benches for all reasonable procedural decisions.
The third sitting of the first session of the 13th National Parliament commenced at 3 pm with Deputy Speaker Kamal in the chair.
