Govt offers up to Tk 1 lakh reward to curb illegal fuel hoarding
The government has announced a reward of up to Tk 100,000 for anyone who provides accurate information to local authorities about illegal fuel hoarding and smuggling. The announcement was made on Monday (March 30) by the Division of Energy and Mineral Resources. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a press statement confirming the decision.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources stated that the government has appointed tag officers to monitor all filling stations across the country amid unrest in the fuel sector. Their duties and areas of responsibility have also been clearly defined.
The decision to appoint tag officers comes in response to recent incidents of illegal fuel hoarding and aims to prevent unrest at various filling stations. Although many stations display banners stating “No Fuel Available,” mobile courts have uncovered large quantities of fuel during raids. In some cases, magistrates even discovered illegally stored fuel in residential homes.
