Severe traffic congestion gripped parts of the capital on Sunday as several hundred garment workers blocked a key road in Mohakhali, demanding unpaid wages.

Around 700-800 workers of NASSA Group staged a blockade on the Tejgaon–Gulshan Link Road near Mohakhali bus terminal, halting vehicle movement on one of the city’s busiest corridors, according to the Gulshan Traffic Division.

The protest forced authorities to suspend traffic on both sides of the Tejgaon-Mohakhali-Uttara route, triggering long tailbacks and widespread disruption in surrounding areas.

Traffic police advised commuters to use alternative routes, including the elevated expressway for travel between Uttara and Mohakhali, and the Mohakhali flyover for those heading towards Tejgaon.

Other diversion options include Kakali-Kamal Ataturk Avenue-Gulshan 2-Natun Bazar and Gulshan 1-Rampura-Hatirjheel routes.
