Senior leaders of Bangladesh’s Protestant churches met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Easter Sunday to exchange greetings and formally request that Easter Sunday be declared a public holiday.

The courtesy call took place at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Cabinet Division on Sunday, April 5.

Representatives of the Christian community conveyed their greetings to the Prime Minister during the event.

After the meeting, Pastor David Anwar Hossain, Chairman of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Bangladesh, said the delegation had raised the demand for Easter Sunday to be made a public holiday.

The leaders also called for the inclusion of a Christian representative in the reserved women’s seats allocated to the BNP and for the restructuring of the Christian Religious Welfare Trust.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman assured the delegation that the government would work to fulfil these demands.
