A group of 13 Western countries has jointly cautioned Bangladeshi citizens against using unauthorised agents or fraudulent means while applying for visas and other consular services, stressing strict adherence to official procedures.

The advisory, issued in a joint statement on Wednesday, was signed by the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Australia.

Diplomatic missions in Dhaka – including the British High Commission Dhaka, Embassy of Germany Dhaka and Australian High Commission Dhaka – shared the statement on their official Facebook pages.

The countries urged applicants to follow prescribed government channels when applying for visas, permits or other services, warning against the use of fake documents, unlicensed agents or unauthorised intermediaries.

“Applicants must refrain from engaging with individuals or organisations that promise shortcuts or special influence,” the statement said, adding that no embassy or mission is affiliated with any external agent.

The joint advisory highlighted the risks associated with irregular practices, including delays in visa processing, financial losses, denial of entry at borders and potential legal complications.

Reiterating the importance of transparency, the missions encouraged applicants to rely solely on verified information and official government platforms of the respective countries.

The coordinated message appears aimed at curbing a growing trend of visa-related fraud and misinformation, while ensuring a safer and more equitable application process for Bangladeshi travellers.
