AL’s Liton unofficially elected Rajshahi mayor

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Awami League mayor candidate, was unofficially declared elected in the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election.

He has defeated BNP contestant Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul by a huge margin of 87, 00, 20 votes.

Litan bagged 1, 65,332 votes while Mohammad Mosaddek polled 78,312 in 138 centres on Monday.

The balloting in the RCC election was held amid BNP’s various allegations of irregularities and vote fraud at many polling stations.

The balloting started at 8 in the morning at all voting centers of the three cities with the participation of a huge number of voters, standing on long queues. The voting continued till 4 pm without any break.

However, the ruling party and its mayor candidate claimed that the balloting was largely fair and BNP brought the allegations to make the polls controversial only.

In RCC, four candidates are contesting for the mayoral post. They are: ruling Awami League-nominated AHM Khairuzzaman Liton (Boat), BNP-nominated Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul (Sheaf of Paddy), Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Md Shafiqul Islam (Hand Fan) and independent candidate Md Murad Morshed (Elephant).
