Khaleda discharged from London Clinic, returns to son’s home

Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has returned to her son Tarique Rahman’s residence in the UK after 17 days of treatment at the London Clinic.

She was taken to her son’s home following medical advice at 9:30 pm London local time on Friday (3:30 AM Bangladesh time). She will continue her treatment under the supervision of a medical board there.

Shamsuddin Didar, a member of the BNP Chairperson's media wing, confirmed this information.

Earlier, during a briefing outside the clinic on Thursday, Khaleda Zia’s personal doctor, Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, stated that the medical board had yet to make a decision regarding a liver transplant. He added that the next steps would depend on her age and overall health. The treatment currently being followed, which is based on medication, has been agreed upon by doctors at the London Clinic and Johns Hopkins Medical College in the United States. Specialist doctors from King’s College in London also examined Khaleda Zia.

Zahid Hossain also confirmed that Khaleda Zia would continue her treatment at Tarique Rahman’s home, under the supervision of Professor Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross, in accordance with the medical board's decision.

The 79-year-old former Prime Minister has been suffering from various health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney problems, heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. She traveled to London for advanced treatment on January 8, and was admitted to the specialized private hospital ‘The London Clinic’ after arriving at Heathrow Airport.
