Jamaat leader Masud calls for ban on AL by noon

Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka South unit, has demanded that the Awami League be banned by Friday noon.

“We don’t want to let noon pass. The Awami League must be banned by calling upon all political parties immediately. We hope this government will fulfill the demands of the students and the people,” he said.

Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP), led by Hasnat Abdullah, have been gathering in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence, Jamuna, since Thursday night, demanding that the Awami League be banned and brought to trial.

Masud made the remarks while joining the protest around 8 am on Friday (May 9).

The rally was also attended by Md Delwar Hossain, a member of Jamaat’s central Majlis-e-Shura, along with several other leaders from various levels of the Dhaka Metropolitan unit.

Masud further alleged, “The Awami League is not only responsible for the August 5 massacre but also for the killings on October 28, 2006, and the Shapla Chattar incident on May 5–6, 2013. On February 25–26, 2009, they killed 57 brilliant army officers. In 2013, more than 250 people were killed following the verdict against Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayeedi. In 2021, 25 people were killed during Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.”
