EC's attitude not neutral and fair: Nahid
Alleging that the Election Commission (EC) does not maintain neutrality and fairness in performing its duties, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam called for reformation of the commission right now for the sake of fair polls.
"About the Election Commission, we have conveyed our concern to the Chief Adviser. It seems to us that the formation process of the Election Commission and its present attitude are not neutral and fair. The way Election Commission should have acted as a constitutional body, it does not do so," he said.
Nahid made the remarks at a press briefing after a meeting of NCP with the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday evening, October 22.
Mentioning that the commission is behaving with some political parties like a stepmother, he said, "That is why, we urged the government to reform the Election Commission now."
The topics NCP discussed with the Chief Adviser in today’s meeting, the July Uprising mass killings is one them, Nahid noted, adding that they thanked the government for producing some army members involved in the mass killings before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today.
Regarding not signing the July National Charter, the NCP convener stated they told the Chief Adviser that they will sign the charter after being assured about how the charter will be implemented.
