Fakhrul says upcoming election might be his last
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election might be his last.
“This election might be my last election! Those who did not receive nominations, please have faith — InshaAllah, the party will give you due responsibility and respect!” Mirza Fakhrul wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
Expressing gratitude to the party, he said, “By the grace of Almighty Allah, the BNP has nominated me for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency! I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and all our leaders. I also sincerely thank all party workers for standing by me throughout my life.”
Recalling his long political journey, he continued, “Those of us who have spent our lives in politics, who have endured imprisonment, we all have our own stories — many do not know them. When I decided to return to politics in 1987, my two daughters were very young and studying in Dhaka. My wife was quite young then! At first, she was completely stunned — she could sense the terrible uncertainty she was about to step into! She took our daughters to school and to the doctor, holding their hands. I still remember when my elder daughter was about to undergo surgery — I spent the entire night in a car on the way to Dhaka so I could be by her side.”

He added, “I will share these stories another day, if Allah wills! Thousands of our leaders and activists have stories like these! This election might be my last! Those who did not receive nominations, please have faith — InshaAllah, the party will give you due responsibility and respect!”
Seeking prayers, Mirza Fakhrul further wrote, “Please pray for me and for every leader and activist of our party. Together, we will stand by the people and work for them, InshaAllah. The BNP has the capability to lead the nation forward with dignity, InshaAllah! Stay with us. Long live Bangladesh!”
Meanwhile, Mirza Fakhrul posted his status at 1:07 pm and later edited it twice. In his original post, he wrote, “This election is my last election!” He later edited it at 1:54 pm to read, “This election might be my last election.”
