Thousands gather at Manik Mia Avenue to join Hadi's namaz-e-janaza
Thousands of people are gathering in Dhaka's Manik Mia Avenue to attend the namaz-e-janaza of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi, who was shot in the capital last week.
People from the city and various districts of the country are coming to the avenue from Saturday morning, December 20, with processions.
Wearing the national flag on their heads and hands, they were chanting various slogans demanding justice for the murder of Hadi.
A participant named Shariful Islam said, "I have known Hadi Bhai since August 5. I am fortunate to participate in the namaz-e-janaza of a revolutionary leader. May Allah give my brother Jannah."
The namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held at 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The government requested that those wishing to attend the janaza not carry any bags or heavy objects.
It also said that flying drones in and around the parliament complex will remain completely restricted during the funeral prayers.
Twenty platoons of BGB members have been deployed to 20 key areas of the city, including the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, to maintain the law and order situation centring on the namza-e-janaza.
Sharif Osman bin Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 while travelling on a rickshaw on Culvert Road in the capital's Bijoynagar area after Jumma prayers.
He initially underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later admitted to Evercare Hospital.
For advanced treatment, he was airlifted to Singapore, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 18.
The body of Hadi arrived in Dhaka on Friday evening, December 19.
