Clash breaks out at Rumeen Farhana's rally

Two groups of people clashed at a rally of dismissed BNP leader Barrister Rumeen Farhana, an independent candidate for the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, in Brahmanbaria on Friday night, January 16.

The incident occurred at Akhitara village under Noagaon union in Sarail upazila around 8:00 pm.

According to locals, a scuffle took place between two individuals over taking photos after Rumeen Farhana reached the stage. At one stage, people from two groups equipped with sticks swooped on each other, leaving several injured.

Confirming the matter, Sarail police station's officer-in-charge, Md Manzur Quader Bhuiyan, stated that the police visited the spot and legal action will be taken if anyone files a written complaint.

Being denied the BNP nomination for the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, Rumeen Farhana announced that she will contest the 13th parliamentary election from the seat as an independent candidate.

The Brahmanbaria-2 comprises Sarail and Ashuganj upazilas, and Bijoynagar's Budhanti and Chandura unions.

On December 30, the BNP expelled Assistant International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumeen Farhana for being a candidate in the polls, defying party decisions.
