Jamaat activist Bibi Sawoda gets bail

A Bhola court has granted bail to Bibi Sawoda, a female activist of Jamaat-e-Islami, who was arrested in connection with allegations of posting content against the state.

Judge Saurav Ray Mithu of the Bhola Judicial Magistrate Court approved the bail on Tuesday noon, April 7.

Sawoda, wife of Abdul Halim Babul of ward no. 6 in Bhola municipality, was detained on Sunday night from her residence in the Adarsha Para area.

Her arrest drew significant attention, with conflicting statements from law enforcement and Jamaat-e-Islami representatives.

According to Bhola Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah Kawsar, the arrest was made following allegations that she posted anti-state and anti-government content on Facebook.

He said she reportedly admitted to the allegation during preliminary questioning and was subsequently produced before the court under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

An investigation into the matter is underday, he said, adding that her affiliation with Jamaat-e-Islami was not confirmed at the time of arrest.

Meanwhile, Bhola district Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Md Harun-or-Rashid, in a press conference, claimed that she was detained without any verifiable evidence.

The party strongly condemned the arrest and demanded her immediate release, describing the action as unjustified.
