Jahanara alleges sexual harassment; BCB to form probe body

Former Bangladesh women’s cricket captain Jahanara Alam has alleged that she faced sexual harassment while playing for the national team. She has accused former women’s team selector and manager Manjurul Islam, a former national pacer, and the late Touhid Mahmud, former in-charge of BCB’s women’s division.

Jahanara made these allegations during an interview with freelance sports journalist Riasad Azim on his YouTube channel on Thursday. She also named several others in her complaint. According to Jahanara, she reported the incidents in detail to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) but received no response or remedy.

In response, the BCB announced it will form an investigation committee, which is expected to submit its report within 15 working days.

In a statement, the BCB emphasized its commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and professional environment for players and officials. The board said appropriate action will be taken based on the committee’s findings.

The board also appealed to all parties—especially the media—to refrain from speculative comments, reports, or analyses during the investigation to avoid influencing the process.
