Mustafizur Rahman has capped off a standout year by earning a place in Wisden’s Men’s T20 Team of the Year 2025, cementing his status as one of the world’s most effective white-ball bowlers.

The Bangladeshi left-arm pacer impressed across both international and franchise cricket, prompting Wisden’s editorial panel to include him in their best XI from all recognised T20 matches played in 2025.

Wisden praised his remarkable consistency, pointing out that among bowlers who delivered at least 150 overs last year, none came close to Mustafizur’s bowling average of 18.03. He was also hailed as the most economical pacer of the year, regularly shutting down scoring while picking up key wickets.

Fizz ended 2025 with 59 wickets in 43 innings, an economy of 6.78 and a strike rate of 15.9, with best figures of 3 for 11. Only Jason Holder edged him in strike rate among comparable bowlers.

The Team of the Year packs balance: two spinners, two pacers, and two pace-bowling all-rounders. Mustafizur leads the seam attack alongside New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, while Jason Holder and Sam Curran take the all-rounder spots. The spin duo features Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.

The batting firepower is just as fierce. India’s Abhishek Sharma tops the order after smashing three centuries and becoming the first batter to cross 1,000 T20 runs in a calendar year at a strike rate of 202.01. England’s Phil Salt partners him, with Dewald Brevis, Donovan Ferreira, and Tim David loading up the middle order.

Another global honour for the Fizz – and another reason Bangladesh cricket fans can smile heading into the 2026 World Cup.
