58,000 more tonnes of wheat arrive from US

A ship carrying 58,500 more tonnes of wheat from the United States has reached the Mongla Port in Bagerhat.

The vessel, MV CALYSO N, anchored the port's fairway buoy on Wednesday, March 11, said Abul Hasem Shamim, manager of Seven Seas, the local shipping agent of the MV CALYSO N.

After the sample testing of the wheat, unloading activities began on Thursday morning, March 12, he said.

The wheat consignment is the fifth under a government-to-government (G2G) purchase arrangement signed to import a total of 4.50 lakh tonnes of wheat from the US, said Abdus Sobhan Sardar, assistant food controller at Mongla Food Office.

Earlier, the first shipment of 22,780 tonnes of wheat arrived on November 2, 2025, the second of 60,875 tonnes on November 14, the third of 22,756 tonnes on January 5 this year and the fourth of 56,000 tonnes on February 1.
