BERC hikes jet fuel price again
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission has once again raised the price of jet fuel, used in aircraft, with the new rates set to take effect from midnight past Tuesday.
According to the latest announcement on April 7, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights has been increased from Tk 202.29 per litre to Tk 227.08 per litre.
For international flights, the price has been raised from $1.3216 to $1.4806 per litre, excluding duty and VAT.
This marks the latest in a series of sharp hikes.
On March 24, jet fuel prices were increased by around 80 per cent for domestic routes and about 79 per cent for international flights.
Earlier, on March 8, prices for domestic routes were raised from Tk 95.12 to Tk 112.41 per litre, while international rates went up from $0.62 to $0.7384 per litre.
Officials attribute the repeated adjustments to volatility in the global energy market, particularly in the context of the ongoing Middle East tensions involving Iran.
Aviation sector insiders fear that the continued rise in fuel costs – one of the largest components of airline operating expenses – could lead to higher airfares on both domestic and international routes, impacting passengers and the broader travel industry.
