7-college students stage sit-in to demand university ordinance
Students of seven government colleges are staging a sit-in in front of Shikkha Bhaban in the capital, demanding the issuance of the “Dhaka Central University Ordinance” within the next three working days.
The students took out a procession and took position in front of the Shikkha Bhaban 11:00 am.
The sit-in halted vehicular movement on the road from Shikkha Bhaban toward the Secretariat, triggering traffic jam in the surrounding areas.
Police set up barricades to prevent students from moving toward the Secretariat.
The protesters said they would not leave the streets until a government representative comes and gives them assurance.
The students said the government had called their representatives for a discussion but they rejected the proposal.
They warned that if their demands are not met, they would announce tougher programmes including separate demonstrations at their respective colleges and sit-ins in front of offices concerned.
