Govt job seekers give ultimatum to raise age limit to 35

Job seekers have given the government an ultimatum to raise the upper age limit for entering government jobs to 35 years by April 12.

They gave the ultimatum at a press conference arranged by the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) on Saturday, April 4, threatening tougher movement if their demand is not met by the stipulated period.

Job seekers' representative Shariful Hasan Shuva said a large number of students were unable to complete their academic studies in time due to recent political unrest, session jams, and various unexpected situations. As a result, they are being deprived of the opportunity to apply for government jobs.

"We demand the increase of the entrance age limit in government jobs up to 37-40 years temporarily as an interim measure and alongside, raising the threshold to at least 35 years permanently following international standards," he said.

Mentioning that they have been protesting for around 14 years to press home the demand and received assurances from previous governments, he alleged that there has, however, been no visible progress.
