DSA case: Mahiya Mahi arrested from Shahjalal Airport

Dhallywood actress Mahiya Mahi has been arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA). 

The actress was arrested around 12pm on Saturday when she reached the airport after performing umrah in Saudi Arabia.

Md Kamal, Deputy Commissioner (detective) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), confirmed her arrest to Jago News.

He said Mahi was arrested from the HSIA in a DSA case. The next legal step will be taken in this regard.

Earlier on Friday, Mohammad Rokon Miah, Sub Inspector of Basan Police Station of GMP, filed a case against Mahi and her husband Rakib Sarker under the DSA.

It was alleged in the case statement that, Mahi have deteriorated law and order situation by spreading defamatory information on Facebook live.

However, an allegation of occupying a land worth crores of taka has been raised against Rakib. He is also accused in some cases including murder. Rakib is the former Joint Secretary of Awami League’s Relief and Social Works sub-committee and also involved in the politics of Chhatra League.

A few months ago, Mahi collected a nomination form from Awami League to contest in the by-polls to Chapainawabganj-2 but the party’s Parliamentary Nomination Board didn’t give her nomination for the seat.
